Digital marketing and public relations have become closely connected with how organizations communicate their values, demonstrate quality, and engage with the people they serve. The work demands a balance of creativity and structure, particularly when communication is linked to areas such as excellence, innovation, quality, and emerging technologies. It also requires professionals to understand both the message and the purpose behind it.

With 20 years of experience across the UAE and MENA markets at the intersection of marketing, communication, and business excellence, Doaa Afifi, Head of Digital Marketing and PR for the last 10 years, brings extensive expertise. Her work spans digital transformation, marketing, public relations, and the management of prestigious national and international awards focused on excellence, innovation, quality, Ideas, digital transformation, and AI. She has led more than 100 impactful campaigns, designed a strategy to transform her entity from manual processes to digitalization, which led to increased ROI during the pandemic, and developed a professional perspective shaped by the evolving nature of communication and the growing importance of meaningful, well-directed engagement.

Her experience reflects visionary mentorship and a multidisciplinary career that extends beyond corporate marketing campaigns, linking communication to broader initiatives on excellence and innovation. Throughout her career, she has worked across areas that require creative thinking, problem-solving, crisis & risk management, and a clear understanding of organizational goals and vision, bringing together her experience in digital marketing, PR, and transformation.

Her professional journey provides a closer look at how communication, recognition, and digital transformation come together within an organization focused on quality and excellence.

From Financial Discipline to Strategic Marketing

Doaa’s professional journey began in 1993, when she graduated from Cairo University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. Her foundation in finance gave her an analytical mindset, fiscal discipline, and an ROI-driven perspective, while her passion for marketing and strong communication skills later distinguished her approach to marketing. Motivated to connect commercial data with creative outreach, she deliberately shifted into marketing and joined GIZA System, a leading international IT company in Egypt & Middle East.

Her commitment to developing her capabilities continued through advanced postgraduate study. She earned a Master’s Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Strategic Marketing and Digital Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in London.

In 2006, Doaa moved to Dubai with her family after taking a short career break to focus on raising her children. She returned to professional life in 2010, leading multichannel communications, brand positioning, and corporate social responsibility initiatives across diverse sectors for leading international organizations in the UAE.

A significant chapter began in 2014, when she was working at an international agency and was entrusted with managing the Dubai Quality Group (DQG) account, one of 40 accounts under her responsibility at the time. After achieving major publicity successes and expanding DQG’s reach across regional television, radio, and international media platforms, a turning point came in 2016. DQG management, represented by the former chairman, invited her to join the Group to drive business development and build its dedicated in-house PR and marketing department from the ground up.

Her work built strong brand awareness and rebranded the Group to showcase its history and achievements, and she led many major awareness campaigns for initiatives like launching the first cycle of the UAE Innovation Award across online and offline media, contributing to a significant increase in both the volume and quality of corporate memberships. Doaa was promoted twice, eventually reaching her current position as Head of Department. Her leadership journey has since evolved from hands-on tactical execution toward strategic governance, digital transformation, and ecosystem steering.

Advancing Quality Through Digital Practice

Upon joining the Dubai Quality Group in 2016, Doaa was afforded a platform to implement the principles it advocates and to lead Digital Marketing and PR, with a particular focus on digital maturity and quality governance.

That approach became especially relevant in 2020, during the height of the global pandemic, a massive challenge for everyone, especially corporate entities. Working with limited resources, Doaa led a comprehensive digital transformation of DQG’s operational framework, using MarTech tools to seamlessly transform all the group’s activities, including seminars, training, benchmarking, marketing, conferences, and awards. Successfully delivered the first virtual awards conference, attended by 1,500 delegates from the UAE and the region.

The transition expanded the Group’s reach beyond the UAE and GCC, attracting clients and awards’ applicants from across the globe. It also opened new revenue streams and contributed to a sustained increase in high-caliber applicants from government and private entities, a trajectory that continues today.

Digital Transformation as a Commercial Engine

Doaa views digital transformation as a strategic engine for maintaining operational momentum, increasing revenue, and optimizing costs during difficult market conditions.

During the pandemic, when many organizations were reducing budgets and struggling to sustain operations, DQG’s management supported her in converting its physical activities into agile digital platforms at minimal cost. Summit Conferences, awards, seminars, benchmarking sessions, and conferences were transitioned into high-engagement webinars and digital platforms.

The low-cost digital pivot created new revenue streams during a period of severe market contraction. It also reduced operational overhead and streamlined submission and evaluation workflows for members and applicants.

For Doaa, the experience demonstrated how digital transformation, when guided by a clear strategy, can support resilience and commercial growth during a global crisis.

A Multi-Channel Approach to Brand Presence

Doaa’s approach to strengthening the organization’s brand presence combines digital responsiveness with high-level traditional media. Across social media channels, she developed targeted content strategies designed to provide practical value to decision-makers, contributing to significant organic follower growth and higher user engagement.

She also developed media diplomacy frameworks that extended the organization’s visibility beyond its digital ecosystem. These efforts included high-profile broadcast interviews on major television networks and radio channels, along with regular feature coverage in leading Arabic and English newspapers in the UAE.

Her view of an effective digital strategy is straightforward: relevant and authoritative content must reach key stakeholders wherever they consume information. Consistency across traditional broadcast and modern digital platforms remains central to maintaining strong brand positioning.

Campaigns Measured Beyond Vanity Metrics

Having managed more than 100 integrated marketing campaigns across international agencies and in her executive role, Doaa has come to view campaign success as something that extends beyond clicks, readers, or views. She measures success through organizational ROI, commercial growth, and long-term brand equity.

Her strategic approach relies on 360-degree marketing frameworks that bring together online and offline advertising, targeted bilingual press releases, executive television and radio interviews, and focused outreach through specialized social media channels.

The initiatives like the Excellence Conferences & Awards series reflect this methodology. By connecting a clear strategic narrative with multi-channel outreach and structured lead conversion, Doaa ensures that campaigns remain tied to business objectives while strengthening the organization’s market authority.

Consistency Across Diverse Stakeholders

Doaa’s PR and communications strategy is rooted in strategic partnerships with prominent government entities and private-sector organizations across the UAE and the region. Aligning corporate communications with UAE leadership visions and economic transformation targets allows the organization to establish credibility with both national and international stakeholders.

Maintaining a consistent presence across audiences, from public-sector leaders to corporate executives, depends on central governance. While messaging is adapted to resonate with different sectors, the organization’s core values of quality, integrity, and operational excellence remain consistent across every touchpoint, media kit, and press release.

Calm, Clear Communication Under Pressure

Doaa approaches crisis communication and brand protection through proactive preparation and rapid response. Her management framework involves continuous risk assessment, identifying vulnerabilities in public messaging, event management, and stakeholder engagement before they escalate.

When unexpected operational or market challenges arise, established communication protocols are activated to maintain transparency and protect institutional trust. Her experience with high-pressure situations has reinforced the importance of calm authority, fact-based communication, and clarity. During uncertainty, stakeholders need grounded direction, while open and honest dialogue remains central to protecting organizational credibility.

The Discipline Behind Excellence Awards

Over the past 10 years, especially before the pandemic, her responsibilities have also extended into international expansion. Strategic outreach attracted international members such as the Central Bank of Iraq, while international EFQM training programs were organized for high-level delegations from the UAE, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and other regional countries. Several initiatives were funded by global institutions, including the World Bank and the United Nations and UNDP.

Doaa’s responsibility for prestigious national and international awards, supported by an extensive panel of expert assessors, stems from a strategic plan she developed six years ago. Maintaining the standards of these programs requires close engagement among departmental staff, assessor panels, award heads, executive leadership, and applicants.

The latest milestone in 2026 stands among the proudest moments of her career. Behind the achievement was a year of intense dedication, managed from start to finish by a lean core team, generating applications from the UAE and the region, along with coordination with almost 230 expert assessors guiding multi-stage assessment protocols, 146 winners across various categories, major Excellence Awards delivered under strict governance standards, and high-profile attendees hosted at the annual award ceremony.

For Doaa, the scale of the achievement reinforced a clear principle: global impact does not necessarily require a large team. It requires dedicated professionals with a shared vision, mutual trust, and a strong commitment to excellence.

Mentorship Over Management

Doaa’s leadership philosophy centers on mentorship rather than simply managing people. She believes genuine respect comes from building trust, engaging with the team hands-on, allowing team members to embrace a shared vision, and becoming an authentic role model.

Her management style is macro-management supported by empowerment, trust, and employee autonomy, deliberately flexible, giving team members creative and operational freedom to execute their responsibilities as long as they meet defined targets and KPIs. That freedom is supported by comprehensive training and skill development at the outset. Once people have the tools required to work accurately and maintain high-performance standards, they are given full operational autonomy.

Quality as a Guardrail for Innovation

Doaa sees quality, innovation, and digital transformation as an interconnected triad. Digital transformation provides the technical architecture, innovation introduces creative solutions, and quality establishes the governance framework and standards.

Innovation without quality controls can create operational risk, while quality without innovation can result in stagnation. Her approach is to embed quality criteria directly into the digital innovation lifecycle. Rather than restricting experimentation, quality standards should act as guardrails that allow organizations to experiment safely, move quickly, and maintain operational integrity.

The Convergence of AI, Data, and Quality

Looking ahead, Doaa sees the strongest opportunity for modern organizations at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, predictive data analytics, and agile quality governance. As markets move toward intelligent digital economies, she believes businesses will need to integrate smart technologies directly into their core strategies.

Digital transformation and AI will reshape excellence by automating routine workflows, providing real-time predictive insights, and personalizing stakeholder engagement.

Organizations that integrate emerging AI tools while maintaining robust quality standards, in her view, will be better positioned in agility, trust, and sustainable growth.

The Skills Shaping Modern Marketing

Doaa’s advice to marketing professionals is to bridge financial and analytical thinking with creative communication. Marketing, in her view, has moved beyond promotional campaigns to become an important driver of digital capability and revenue growth.

She identifies four areas as particularly important: financial acumen and an ROI focus, supported by analytical thinking and measurable commercial outcomes; MarTech and digital architecture, including cloud tools, automated workflows, and data analytics such as GA4 and CRM systems; mentorship and empowering leadership, built through continuous training and operational autonomy; and strategic narrative and storytelling, which translate technical digital achievements into clear, compelling stories capable of building lasting trust with executive stakeholders.
